23 years....young?

Yes, it is official. I am now 23 years old. I talked to my parents on my birthday morning and got the standard.....

Mom: "Do you feel any older?"
Me: "Yes. Yes I do."
Dad: "What's different? How do you feel older?"
Me: "I don't know, I just don't want to be 23."
Dad: "Don't worry. In a year, you won't be 23 anymore."

It is a strange feeling to have reached the age when birthdays are, in fact, just a day when you realize another year has flown by. My birthday last year wasn't so bad because I convinced everyone that it was only my 21st birthday (and got tequila shots on the house!). But this year? I spent my 23rd birthday night in my pajamas watching "I Love Lucy" reruns! And I couldn't have been happier!!!

Now as any 23 year old would do--ready to make the most out of the year before it flies by again--I went to Borders to buy a GMAT prep book. (Okay, and stopped by DSW to buy some cute shoes, for work, of course). It has always been part of my plan to go to grad school part time while I continue to work, but I've had trouble deciding what to go to grad school for. History? Sure that would be fun, but it doesn't open any new doors that haven't already been opened just by having a B.A. in History, or more importantly take me to a new salary level. Museum Administration? Certainly an option, but what if I decide when I'm 30 that I've been working in museums for 10 years and I'm bored with it? So, I have decided to work towards an M.B.A. Why not? At least this way I can still work in museums and still have other options if I suddenly decide I need out.

I've been looking over the GMAT prep book (I'm already on page 12) and have decided that I am also looking for other book recommendations. In exactly one week, I will be preparing to go back to work...probably by pacing around my townhouse trying to decide what to wear (after all, I need to wear business professional clothing, rather than 17th or 18th century historic dress). Anyways, with this job I will be travelling an awful lot starting in October. That means hotel stays and downtime in the evenings, and a chance to catch up on my reading. I'm not going to be studying for the GMATs the whole time, that's for sure! So, my loyal blog readers, reply with a comment or shoot me an email of some of your favorite book recommendations. Especially you, Katie Higgins Galvin.
